Our research and innovation culture

Developing and enhancing how research and innovation are supported, delivered and communicated

The University is committed to delivering globally-recognised research and innovation solutions that improve our economy and society. Our success depends on ensuring we create and sustain a positive and equitable research culture that underpins the way that research is conducted in our institution, and the capabilities and drive of our community of staff.

Research Culture has been defined in many ways by many organisations, but is essentially concerned with 'how research is managed, how people are supported to undertake research, how research ensures value and how individuals engage with each other as they attempt to become successful researchers'. (Vitae, 2023).

The СÀ¶ÊÓƵ's Enhancing Research Culture programme aims to enhance the excellence of our research by supporting our people to be the best researchers they can be. The project is delivered through several core themes, as outlined below, each designed to foster a thriving and inclusive research environment.

Core themes: Research and Innovation culture encompasses a number of key themes including support for the R&I community, Governance, Ethics and Integrity, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and Impact, Collaboration and Innovation.

If you have any comments about the programme, whether you’d like to help, or have any issues you’d like us to tackle, please contact us at researchculture@port.ac.uk.
